I was just wondering but does anyone know if an American could join the CCP or any branch of the Chinese government?

第一条 年满十八岁的中国工人、农民、军人、知识分子和其他社会阶层的先进分子，承认党的纲领和章程，愿意参加党的一个组织并在其中积极工作、执行党的决议和按期交纳党费的，可以申请加入中国共产党。

Chinese workers, farmers, soldiers, intellectuals and other progressive classes of society who have reached 18 years of age, accept the party creed and constitution, are willing to participate in the works of a party organisation, carry out party resolutions and pay the membership fees on time can apply to join the Communist Party of China.

abt 5 yrs ago I saw a news excerpt on Chinese TV (perhaps CCTV 9?) abt a foreigner who had joined the Chinese communist party - he was a young guy in his mid-30s, married to a Chinese lady, bright eyed, bushy-tailed and very excited abt his new membership. Nice propaganda piece, sorry I don't have more info for you.

There's Sidney Rittenberg, though I doubt he was the one featured in that news story.

I believe Rittenberg's the only American who was admitted to Party membership.

His autobiography details it all, I recall.

He's now a China business consultant back in the US.
