Is there a gym at BLCU?

Hi,

I know walking is a great exercise, especially when in beijing, but I prefer working out indoors. Does the Beijing Language and Culture University have an in-door gym? If so, how much is the monthly fee?

Hi Lindsay,

Fusion Fitness is on campus. They charged me (a year and a half ago) something like 300 RMB a month. It won't get much cheaper than that unless you sign up for a long time with them. It was convenient and the staff is friendly, but the place isn't big... but I know there's a second establishment for Fusion (you can use your card there too) at the Xi Jiao hotel right off campus since a friend of mine worked out there.

My personal recommendation would be try the Nirvana gym which I believe is right down the road between BLCU and Qinghua. I went to a location in Dalian this past summer and it was fantastic. Expensive yes... but the equipment was A+++, the staff was friendly, classes great (pilates instructor was good and the cycling classes were nuts), and the locker rooms so nice I showered there instead of at the dorm. Try and get a good deal, a couple thousand yuan for 6mos or 1 year contracts.

Also, by A+++ equipment I mean many, many new treadmills, ellipticals, stairsteppers, recumbent and upright bikes (all equipped with personal TVs and remotes, and a few with DVD players), stability balls and mats, indoor cycling bikes (resistance), and weight machines---all of which were kept in better shape than the gym I paid top dollar for in the US!

I'm really tempted to join Nirvana gym now but I'll only be in the BLCU area for 5 weeks. Since I'll be staying in the BLCU dorms, how far of a walk is blcu to nirvana?
