billybot Posted January 26, 2007 at 03:21 AM Report Posted January 26, 2007 at 03:21 AM I am thinking about setting up a broadband ADSL connection at my house. How is this done? I heard you need to go to the telephone place 电话店, set up a telephone account and then call the internet people. This all makes sense to me... What i have a question about is the different options available for connections/speeds...i.e. is there a choice? My GF just got hooked up at her place and it is a PPPOE connection where she has to sign in with an account name and password (i.e. not always turned on). It is suuuuper slow (compared to internet cafe or her old connection at a big apartment complex). The modem is pretty chintzy looking as well. I wonder if this slowdown has something to do with her connection or with the earthquake damage? How are you connected to the internet at your place? How did you go about getting this set up? Some insights into the mysterious world of Chinese computing is greatly appreciated! Quote
Ninja Posted January 26, 2007 at 08:39 AM Report Posted January 26, 2007 at 08:39 AM PPPOE with unlimited use costs 120rmb/month for me in Chaoyang - the modem and installation was free. I bought a wireless router and installed that myself so I no longer need to dial in as the router does that for me. Quote
roddy Posted January 26, 2007 at 08:56 AM Report Posted January 26, 2007 at 08:56 AM Really your landlord should be doing it, or at the very least you should have your landlord's ID card when you go to do it yourself. Beijing Broadband Pricelist should be helpful. Quote
