rose~ Posted February 4, 2007 at 10:58 PM Report Posted February 4, 2007 at 10:58 PM The lastest documentary from the UK team behind The Game of Their Lives and A State of Mind is called Crossing the Line. The filmakers have somehow manged to be granted access to interview Joseph Dresnok, an American soldier who defected to the North in the 1960s, and there is a preview available here. Having already seen A State of Mind , which was a very powerful and well-made documentary, I think this will definitely be worth watching. A State of Mind gave an insight into the lives of modern North Koreans- two young gymnasts were trailed by the film crew over several months as they trained for the annual Mass Games. I felt the portrayal of North Korea was very human, so it will be interesting to see how they will deal with the more overtly political theme. Quote
bhchao Posted February 5, 2007 at 01:30 AM Report Posted February 5, 2007 at 01:30 AM I wonder why Joseph Dresnok does not intend to leave North Korea. If he returns to the US, he will face punishment for desertion like what happened to that American soldier who defected and married a Japanese woman in North Korea. But I doubt that would be the main reason for Dresnok's staying in North Korea. Quote
geraldc Posted February 5, 2007 at 01:40 AM Report Posted February 5, 2007 at 01:40 AM I caught a bit of a 60 minutes episode about him, he has a family in N Korea, and a certain amount of fame. His rations weren't cut during the recent famine and was very grateful to the govt for that. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/01/25/60minutes/main2398580.shtml Quote
Ding Yiyi Posted February 5, 2007 at 01:58 AM Report Posted February 5, 2007 at 01:58 AM That's an interesting story, those are things you so rarely hear about in the US, I'm looking forward to seeing this documentary come out, hopefully it'll even be in a few movie theatres over here, haha! Quote
flameproof Posted February 5, 2007 at 03:59 AM Report Posted February 5, 2007 at 03:59 AM Interesting, I need to watch it later..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZtkHUkZ8Rg Quote
geraldc Posted March 23, 2007 at 01:14 AM Report Posted March 23, 2007 at 01:14 AM Just watched Crossing the Line, and Dresnok comes across as quite a nice guy. Charles Jenkins however comes across a bit of a whinger. Quote
