I understand what it means, sure no problem. But why? What does 给 mean in this sentence? I know that it can also mean 把, sometimes, as in 我要给你卖了 哈哈哈! Anyone?

This is my first post in like...forever! Don't know how everyone did it during those harsh weeks following the earthquake, but I for one was not able to visit this site for four weeks solid. This feels like a rebirth!

It's a particle helping to make the sentence structure clearer; usually, it can be omitted. It is also used in passive constructions, e.g. 他被车给撞了。
