为何 usually means "howcome" and is placed at the beginning of the sentence.

but it is at the end of the sentence sometimes, for example 不知你的意思为何? what is the meaning?

Out of my feeling I'd say it means "don't know what your meaning is?"

何 is like= 什么 what

and 为 is something like "to be" or "to"

But I might also be wrong.

Here it means "is what" (= "是甚麽"). The meaning of the sentence is as naturegirl says.

Here, 为 is wei2, not wei4. They have different meanings. Check the dictionary.

I would normally say 不知你何意?

More like, "I don't know (=understand) what you mean"

oh, sorry i kind of took it out of context. it was actually after someone had suggested i do something. so in this case 意思 carried the meaning of "idea" or "opinion" rather than "meaning". it was a similar case of characters taking a second meaning that messed me up here with 为何 meaning "is what" rather than "how come".
