Western sayings in Chinese...

Does anyone know how to say "peace on earth" and "do unto others what you want to be done to you" in Chinese? The translations doesn't have to be literal world-per-word. In fact, it doesn't have to be literal at all as long as it makes sense in Chinese.

And if it's too much to ask, I would also like to know the hanzi as well as the pinyin. Much thanks.

For the first one very simple:

世界和平, shìjiè hépíng, almost litteral translation (world peace).

For the second one, I would suggest to explore using the 仁 rén traditional virtue (humanity).

Found the following chengyu 一视同仁 / 一視同仁 yi1shi4tong2ren2, which has a reasonably close meaning: treat others without discrimination, show a great deal of kindness to all.

Litterally: one look, equal humanity.

But others most probably will find better !

PS. How do you do using this website to automatically mark quotation of what you are answering in reply post ?

For the second one, follow elina's advice. The saying s/he gives you is from the Analects.

How do you do using this website to automatically mark quotation of what you are answering in reply post ?

You use the quote button (this icon -> quote.gif). It is not automatic. You have to copy and paste the part you want to quote to your reply.

As for the second translation - you are right, when empashizing Elina is. Had not seen her post when sending out mine ...

Peace on earth: Maybe "tianxia taiping"?

天下太平 just sounds a bit more emphatic than 世界和平 ...

Might be better adpated to Peace on earth which may have religious connotation, while 世界和平 could be a more ... down to earth World Peace.
