Clueless Posted February 23, 2007 at 11:19 PM Report Posted February 23, 2007 at 11:19 PM I was wondering if anyone can help me out with "Journey to the West"? I have to find several archetypes and classical allusions of chinese mythology in it, particularly Chang E, and Yan Wang. It would really mean a lot. Thanks =). Quote
Campbell Posted February 24, 2007 at 07:12 PM Report Posted February 24, 2007 at 07:12 PM There is a chapter in the book where Wukong (Monkey) has to fight a rabbit demon, that is where you will find your reference to Cheng E. You should be able to find Yan Wang in the first chapter (he imprisons Wukong, who escapes and erases all the monkies' names from Yan Wang's registery.) Yan Wang also complains (along with the Western Dragon King) to the Emperor of Heaven about Wukong, which results in Wukong moving from the mortal world to heaven and has to take care of the horses. (I think. Been a while since I read it.) Hope this helps. Quote
