skylee Posted March 1, 2007 at 02:41 PM Report Posted March 1, 2007 at 02:41 PM There is no such thing as "家了". Please check if there is a typo. Perhaps you mean 一家子 vs 一家人? Quote
nipponman Posted March 1, 2007 at 04:56 PM Report Posted March 1, 2007 at 04:56 PM 家人 is a word, 家了 isn't Just kidding. Seriously though, 家人 means "family" 家了 doesn't mean anything Quote
stoney Posted March 1, 2007 at 11:32 PM Author Report Posted March 1, 2007 at 11:32 PM Sorry. I made a mistake. I meant what is the difference between 家里 vs 家人. Quote
Kristina Posted March 2, 2007 at 02:14 AM Report Posted March 2, 2007 at 02:14 AM 家里 literally means at home, so it obviously different from 家人,which means Family. I guess you want to know the differece between : 家里人 and 家人, the meaning for those two words are actually the same, they all mean: Family members, there is also not much difference in using. Quote
VamosRM Posted March 2, 2007 at 05:38 PM Report Posted March 2, 2007 at 05:38 PM In addition, I think "家里人" is more casual than "家人". At informal occasions, both of them are OK. But if it's a formal occasion , you'd better say "家人" (like "这是我家人") rather than "家里人" (like "这是我家里人"). Quote
grimacekid Posted March 13, 2007 at 08:39 AM Report Posted March 13, 2007 at 08:39 AM 家里 means home 家人 means family member ex: 这是我的家人. This is my family. (Mother, father, brother....) 我在家里. I am at home. Yes, sometimes 家里 can stand for 家里人which = 家人 . ex: 我家里都很好. My family are fine. We like to use abbreviation, don't we.... Quote
trien27 Posted March 24, 2007 at 03:47 PM Report Posted March 24, 2007 at 03:47 PM 家里 = "in the home", as in "Who lives in your home?" 在家 = at home. 在 = "to exist", or to be "at (some location)". 在家里 = inside the home(as opposed to being outside the home) 家人 = family member. Quote
kevincn Posted April 18, 2007 at 09:31 AM Report Posted April 18, 2007 at 09:31 AM In 山东 province , 家里/家/家里的/家的/家里娘们儿 can mean wife. You can find in some novels. 那个女的就是李胖子家里(家/家的/家里的). 家里娘们儿告诉我的.--- My wife told me that. In China: 家里老头子 can mean your father. 我家老太太 mean your mother, or your wife if your are an old man. But those should not be used to call other people's families except the 家里/家里的/家的(wife). It's not polite. But nowdays, specially in cities, wives do not like to be call 谁谁的家里. 我告诉家里了.= 我告诉我家里的人了. can mean any families. Quote
