doumeizhen Posted March 2, 2007 at 04:18 AM Report Posted March 2, 2007 at 04:18 AM I realize there might not be an exact equivalent for the word "limbo" but is there a Chinese word that expresses a similar meaning? Quote
roddy Posted March 2, 2007 at 04:23 AM Report Posted March 2, 2007 at 04:23 AM Fairly simple, it's just 林波舞. How low can you go? Quote
doumeizhen Posted March 2, 2007 at 04:27 AM Author Report Posted March 2, 2007 at 04:27 AM You know I saw this coming.... and yet I didn't feel the need to be more specific. I think my subconscious missed you, Roddy. I meant limbo as in the state of existence or feeling, not the game. Though if this is a challenge, you should start warming up now. Quote
HashiriKata Posted March 2, 2007 at 08:32 AM Report Posted March 2, 2007 at 08:32 AM The Chinese equivalent keeps varying depending on the sentence you find "limbo" in (I've tried!), but I hope one of the following may fit your purpose: 心神不定 没有着落 被人忽视 无人过问 (被)打入冷宫 处于不稳定的状态 Quote
djwebb2004 Posted March 2, 2007 at 05:13 PM Report Posted March 2, 2007 at 05:13 PM It sounds like you want a figurative use of limbo rather than the religious use, but "purgatory" in Chinese is 炼狱. I am not sure there is an exact word for limbo (=the part of purgatory where unbaptized children go). http://rena1116.spaces.live.com/ says there is no exact word. Quote
