rose~ Posted March 8, 2007 at 12:54 AM Report Posted March 8, 2007 at 12:54 AM There is an excellent BBC documentary about Iran by Rageh Omah available below, everyone might as well take a look before Iran is bombed to pieces. You really can gain an insight into a different side to the country to that which is normally portrayed in the Western media, even coming from the BBC as it does. It's also evident that Iran is a strong country unified by its Shia traditions which could never be induced into crumbling into civil war by an American attack, nor can it be claimed that Iranian women are burqa-clad victims of opression as some would like us to believe. I think two key points are emphasized: the diversity and modernity of Iranian society, from the ultra-conservative to the liberal; and the impact of the US-backed Iraqi war on Iran. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4679426685869498072 Quote
roddy Posted March 8, 2007 at 12:57 AM Report Posted March 8, 2007 at 12:57 AM Rose, how are you viewing that? I get a Currently, the playback feature of Google Video isn't available in your country. message from Beijing and I note you are in Shanghai. I'm trying via my usual proxy but no joy. I've heard good things about this documentary, would certainly like to see it. Quote
rose~ Posted March 8, 2007 at 01:00 AM Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 at 01:00 AM Oh, I'm not in Shanghai now, sorry, I didn't know the GFW applies to Google video. I thought it would be fine because Youtube is allowed. Quote
roddy Posted March 8, 2007 at 01:01 AM Report Posted March 8, 2007 at 01:01 AM Nothing to do with that, Google itself doesn't allow access - they might be worried about what people might put on there, but I think it's more likely due to heavy bandwidth use and low ad income from China. Quote
pazu Posted March 8, 2007 at 03:25 AM Report Posted March 8, 2007 at 03:25 AM OP, are you in China now? When I was in Lhasa last month, Youtube is almost impossible to access, Google Video is the same, everything is so slow that I went for the Chinese version of YT: http://www.tudou.com/ But you can expect nothing except some hilarious clips. pazu Posted March 8, 2007 at 03:27 AM Report Posted March 8, 2007 at 03:27 AM And there's a rather useful program called VDownloader which allows you to download any Youtube and Google Video and convert them into MPG or AVI files automatically so you can watch them on your mobile device easily. rose~ Posted March 11, 2007 at 12:24 PM Author Report Posted March 11, 2007 at 12:24 PM It's hilarious when they were taarof-ing over the water flask! You can actually see how embarassed the interpreter was, and he said: "No...you just took it...no!", like he'd taken a diamond ring or something! Quote
