Perhaps someone posted it here already? I love this song and the whole album of the same name ( [pop=female/nǚ]女[/pop][pop=nobility/jué]爵[/pop]) Her voice is rich and strong enough to convey the emotion of the song perfectly. The song and lyrics are by the Taiwanese indie band 蘇打綠 Soda Green (check them out here). The style could be described as indie, at least it's not the ubiquitous pop-ballad style that seems to dominate the Chinese market. Recently I've been listening to a lot of 陳綺貞 Chen Qi Zhen as well as this new(-ish) 楊乃文 Yang Nai Wen album and though they might both be grouped together as Taiwanese female indie singers, their voices and styles are actually poles apart. The Taiwan Ministry of Education's Dictionary of Mandarin indicates that shai3 is the colloquial pronunciation of 色 and is used in the term 色子 (shai3 zi0), which is a colloquial term. However, the 色 in 褪色 means "color", and is closer to the 色 in 顏色 (yan2 se4) than the 色 in 色子. Also, 褪 "should" in fact be pronounced as tun4, which is the standard in Taiwan as well as the pronunciation indicated in classical dictionaries such as 康熙字典: 【褪】［韻會］吐困切，「吞」去聲。卸衣也。又花謝也。 退色 (tui4 se4) means the same thing, but is etymologically different. IMHO sometimes it is not a simple matter of "correctness" vs "incorrectness", it also has to do with the speaker's background and personal preference. Quote

When I was young, I was taught to read 塞 as "sai1" But my high school teacher said it was wrong, 塞 should be "se4" instead. Now, people use "sai1"... Interestingly, both 塞 and 色 have very similar pronunciation variances! Se ---> Shai/ Sai I wonder why... DJ. K. Quote

She is Taiwanese, but she lived in Australia for about ten years and graduated from the University of Sydney.
