doumeizhen Posted March 16, 2007 at 04:13 PM Report Share Posted March 16, 2007 at 04:13 PM Hi everyone! Does anyone know how to change Word from an English operating system to a Chinese operating system without having to reinstall (or even buy?) a whole new software? We're working on a Mac. flameproof Posted March 17, 2007 at 12:46 AM Report Share Posted March 17, 2007 at 12:46 AM well, if you would use Xp and open it via AppLocale then it should display Chinese fine (well, I run English Xp and MS Word97 displays Chinese fine without AppLocale...). However, you run a Mac.... In case there is no other help coming in, you could D/L and install OpenOffice > http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/download/index.html It's free and there is a Mac version. It's a 100% replacement for MS Office. it can also open and save MS Word files (plus Excel etc etc.). And it's free too!
stickyrice Posted March 17, 2007 at 01:38 PM Report Share Posted March 17, 2007 at 01:38 PM Hi doumeizhen, I'm assuming that what you want to do is to to input characters into Word, rather than have the menu options etc in Mandarin. If you are using OSX, this is straightforward: 1. Check under System Preferences>Personal>International>Language and make sure that 中文 is selected. If not, select "Edit List" and add it if is necessary. 2. Again in System Prefences>Personal>International, go to Input Menu and select "Character Palate" and "Simplified Chinese". In any application, including Word, to type in Chinese, you then just have to select the Chinese flag from a drop down flag that should appear on the top right hand side of your screen near the clock.
