Qiuyue Posted March 20, 2007 at 02:20 PM Report Posted March 20, 2007 at 02:20 PM Hi, I need to host a site in China. The requirements are: Linux or Unix server Apache 1.13.19 or above PHP 4.2.x or above MySQL 3.23.x or above Can anyone recommend anything? Quote
banjo67xxx Posted March 21, 2007 at 12:09 AM Report Posted March 21, 2007 at 12:09 AM Please can you be more specific? I have a few web sites in the US, UK and even one in Taiwan. Some I let my ISP host for me, and I just use their software to create the web site, but most I host myself as follows ... I have a Sun Ultra-5 on which I run apache, mysql and PHP. Some software came builtin with Solaris 10, others I downloaded and installed from http://www.sunfreeware.com and others I had to download from http://www.soureforge.net compile, debug the compiler problems, and install by hand. I also use the builtin named to serve the DNS for my domainnames, and have registered my static IP with my domainname ISPs. To get all this to work from home, I have to have static IP from my broadband ISP, and configure my ADSL modem/router/firewall to forward all traffic for ports 53 (DNS) and port 80 (http) to the Ultra-5. I don't know if this is any help, as you really need to be more specific about what you want to know ... Quote
Qiuyue Posted March 21, 2007 at 10:15 AM Author Report Posted March 21, 2007 at 10:15 AM Well, I am not very technical. I run Joomla!-sites, so I need a server that can host that. Thank you anyway Quote
gato Posted March 21, 2007 at 10:26 AM Report Posted March 21, 2007 at 10:26 AM You can try ICDSoft, which allows you to choose from servers in the US or HK. HK servers generally can be accessed fairly quickly from the mainland. http://www.icdsoft.com/ Pleco is using them for a mirror download site. Qiuyue Posted March 21, 2007 at 11:53 AM Author Report Posted March 21, 2007 at 11:53 AM Thanks, I already had a look at those servers, and they can host Joomla!, but my web-consulter says it isn´t perfect, has something to do with "php.ini for each folder" apparently. Quote
gato Posted March 21, 2007 at 12:22 PM Report Posted March 21, 2007 at 12:22 PM If you contact the people at ICDSoft, they might be able to address your problem with php.ini Quote
