linglingqi77 Posted March 31, 2007 at 07:02 PM Report Posted March 31, 2007 at 07:02 PM Hi All, I came accross the following characters and of course, I cant recognise them - I guess this type of characters were mostly used during the Shang dynasty in divination oracle bones etc. If anyone knows the pinyin or the meaning that would be great! Thanks Alfie Ancient characters.doc Quote
Lugubert Posted April 1, 2007 at 10:23 AM Report Posted April 1, 2007 at 10:23 AM For the first one, I'd guess 治 zhì. The second one should also have the water radical. There's for example a character 沅 Yuán, a river name. I haven't found water with the phonetic 无, which would look better. For no. 3, I can't guess any part. The last one just might be 如 rú, but the mouth isn't quite the normal one. Quote
trien27 Posted April 7, 2007 at 02:36 AM Report Posted April 7, 2007 at 02:36 AM I might be wrong but I'm guessing that this person (non-Chinese or haven't learnt much Chinese) isn't "copying" the characters correctly: Ru, the last character (it would be the first, because in ancient times, Chinese people read from top to bottom then right to left) 2nd and 3rd just very incorrect: doesn't occur in modern Chinese, therefore hard to deduce to ancient writing. . kevincn Posted April 18, 2007 at 05:35 AM Report Posted April 18, 2007 at 05:35 AM I think the last character would be the first. Then it's 听琴怡情. Listening tweedle , enjoying passion. Quote
kevincn Posted April 18, 2007 at 08:23 AM Report Posted April 18, 2007 at 08:23 AM sorry. I withdraw my words. I think I recognized it wrongly. Quote
