Jive Turkey Posted April 15, 2007 at 01:30 PM Report Posted April 15, 2007 at 01:30 PM What sort of ear infection? If it's a middle ear infection, which is the most common kind and is likely to leave you with a pounding headache, then the common word used in Taiwan is 中耳炎 (zhong1er3yan2), though I guess 耳朵感染 would be just as clear. Ear infections can be caused by viruses or bacteria, but all the ones I've had were bacterial infections that were sorted out with medium to broad spectrum oral antibiotics. Amoxicillin or Augmentin are usually given as first treatment for any ear infection that occurs with a fever of 102 F or higher. If you don't have a fever, then your infection is likely viral. Go to the doctor anyway, though, as doctors usually give a certain type of painkiller for ear infections that alleviates the pain much better than panadol or aspirin. Quote
