Xi'Er Dun Posted April 18, 2007 at 05:33 AM Report Posted April 18, 2007 at 05:33 AM I have a friend in Taiwan who speaks Min-Nan (Taiwanese) 閩南語 (台語) and we wish to converse with each other in Min-Nan 閩南語... So could somebody help me please with a website that could teach me some Min-Nan (Taiwanese) 閩南語 phrases (I'm looking for a site that uses Peh Oe Ji POJ 白話字 and Hanzi 漢字). I am also very interested in learning some Chinese Dialect Characters 方言字, Characters specific to use in certain Chinese Dialects 方言... It would be great if someone could help me.... 謝謝您 Xie Xie Nin Cheers from Australia 澳洲 from Xi'Er Dun 希尔顿 Quote
wai ming Posted April 19, 2007 at 12:40 AM Report Posted April 19, 2007 at 12:40 AM There's some material here http://www.uijin.idv.tw/ which you might find useful. (I think it uses Peh Oe Ji for romanisation but I could be wrong, since I'm not really familiar with Taiwanese and Min dialects generally.) Btw, good to see another Adelaidean here. Maweilin Posted April 19, 2007 at 02:18 AM Report Posted April 19, 2007 at 02:18 AM http://www.edutech.org.tw/Text-Book/Textbook-1990.htm is a very strange site on Taiwanese. It has a lot of information, but is extremely confusing at times, mostly due to the bizarre romanisation scheme. http://www.glossika.com/en/dict/taiwanese/index.php is quite good, if you can get into it... http://edu.ocac.gov.tw/lang/taiwanese/ has a number of childrens flash animations with romanisation, characters and audio. It's a little slow in Australia, and no English, but if your Chinese is passably OK, you can get a decent amount out of it. http://daiwanway.dynip.com/ can be good, but has some formatting, typo issues at times. The biggest problem I end up with when it comes to Taiwanese is the lack of standard romanisation. Peh-oe-ji seems to be the most common, but has internal variation. If you can learn to recognise and convert between different romanisations (like WG and pinyin in Mandarin, but even more different), you'll get a lot out of them. Quote
