tsp_uk Posted April 24, 2007 at 06:00 PM Report Posted April 24, 2007 at 06:00 PM Hi I was wondering if anybody knows a good programme for ripping streams and that is possibly free? Many thanks! Quote

tsp_uk Posted April 25, 2007 at 02:03 PM Author Report Posted April 25, 2007 at 02:03 PM Thanks for your replies but because I'm at the library right now I can't try SDP yet. This song I'm trying to rip does not contain a link, whenever I enter the site I have to press play...so no link for the address. Does SDP automatically detect the address? Many thanks! Quote
imron Posted April 25, 2007 at 02:26 PM Report Posted April 25, 2007 at 02:26 PM No, you have to manually enter the stream address into SDP. Try viewing the page source and searching for mms:// :-) Quote
lokki Posted April 25, 2007 at 06:16 PM Report Posted April 25, 2007 at 06:16 PM I just noticed that flashget, that I recommended above, is very good at downloading prerecorded clips over various protocols, but I think it does not actually do continuous streams. The bitstream needs to come to an end at some point before the data can actually be used. This is what I've gathered from playing around with it, but I'd love to be wrong on this so anyone, please give us a shout and correct me if I am. SDP is good for mms, but it doesn't do rtsp yet. There is a note on their webpage that they plan to include it in the future but nothing about how soon to expect it. Worth keeping an eye on their webpage though. So after all, I am actually interested too. Is there a free continuous rtsp stream ripper around? Quote
imron Posted April 26, 2007 at 12:54 AM Report Posted April 26, 2007 at 12:54 AM VLC handles rtsp, and also has options to save a stream, although I haven't really played around with those options. Quote
youpii Posted April 28, 2007 at 04:10 PM Report Posted April 28, 2007 at 04:10 PM I use "screamer radio" but you need to give it an url Quote

Has anyone any other recommendations? Quote

weiwuwei Posted May 10, 2007 at 05:21 AM Report Posted May 10, 2007 at 05:21 AM vlc, as poster #7 recommended, works great!!!! http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ I use it all the time. Quote
johnd Posted May 11, 2007 at 04:45 AM Report Posted May 11, 2007 at 04:45 AM I've been using flashget since it was recommended above - very useful thanks! Since then I found Switch for converting audio to my mp3 player. I've found it really user friendly, simple, and free - there is a paid-for version, but the free version does what I need (convert to mp3). They also have other free tools: I used Slice for splitting audio files, and WavePad for editing audio files. Quote
venture160 Posted May 17, 2007 at 04:42 PM Report Posted May 17, 2007 at 04:42 PM Anyone know of a good stream ripper that can run on a MAC? I know VLC can do this, but its very ustable and doesn't work half of the time. IS there a way on a mac to direct download the MMS stream? If so I could easily convert a .wma and convert it into .mp3 Thanks! Quote
semantic nuance Posted May 17, 2007 at 05:32 PM Report Posted May 17, 2007 at 05:32 PM To Quest: I'm interested to know how you get the decoded result? Any software to work that out? Very curious to aquire this knowledge, if you don't mind enlightening me. Thanks! Quote
Quest Posted May 17, 2007 at 10:49 PM Report Posted May 17, 2007 at 10:49 PM They have: so you do the same: Quote
semantic nuance Posted May 18, 2007 at 08:12 AM Report Posted May 18, 2007 at 08:12 AM Thank you for you prompt reply, Quest. However, I must be too dumb to understand you. Did you mean I had to rewrite something in the original HTML Code as you displayed in "so you do the same..." part, so I got the link to download the music? Or what? I've tried that, but didn't see anything come out. Quote
tsp_uk Posted May 18, 2007 at 04:30 PM Author Report Posted May 18, 2007 at 04:30 PM Quest - thanks so much! I have this song on audio tape but the tape is nearly 10 years old so I'm so relieved, I've got a backup copy now Quote
venture160 Posted May 18, 2007 at 04:57 PM Report Posted May 18, 2007 at 04:57 PM Still nothing for the mac? Quote
Quest Posted May 18, 2007 at 08:55 PM Report Posted May 18, 2007 at 08:55 PM semantic nuance, just copy the modified code into a text file, and rename it to .html and run it. Quote
