opper567 Posted April 25, 2007 at 03:37 AM Report Posted April 25, 2007 at 03:37 AM I want to buy a digital camera for my trip to China this summer. Are they cheap and easy to find in China or should I just buy one in America? BTW I'm going to Shanghai and Nanjing Quote
cdn_in_bj Posted April 25, 2007 at 06:31 AM Report Posted April 25, 2007 at 06:31 AM Yes they are easy to find, and fairly cheap (stay away from the stores in the tourist areas!), but I think in general you can find better deals in the US. Though it does depend on which brand or model you are thinking of getting. Unless you can bargain in Chinese, or go with a local, you probably won't get the best deals here. But if you aren't after the very best deal and don't mind a bit of hassle, you can get one here if you need to. Memory cards are fairly cheap over here (again, if you go to the right places), though I haven't compared with US prices lately. Quote
Rincewind Posted April 25, 2007 at 01:24 PM Report Posted April 25, 2007 at 01:24 PM One advantage to buying in the USA is that the manual and camera functions will be in English not Chinese (assuming you can't read Chinese). One advantage of buying in China, you will get a Chinese plug on the charger, saving you from requiring power adapters. Quote
cutty Posted April 28, 2007 at 05:48 PM Report Posted April 28, 2007 at 05:48 PM Of course you should buy it in US, it's much cheaper than China if you can find good deals. Of course you must know where to find those deals, here are some sites for you: http://www.fatwallet.com http://www.techbargains.com http://www.resellerratings.com http://www.shopwiki.com It's not only about English manual, most DCs don't have international warranty, so if you buy it in China, you won't get warranty service in US. Memory cards are dirty cheap in US. I got my 1GB SD card for FREE after rebate last year. Now I have seen 2GB SD card FREE after rebate also. Quote
Pravit Posted April 28, 2007 at 05:52 PM Report Posted April 28, 2007 at 05:52 PM I just bought a Canon SD700 from Newegg, and they threw in a 2GB SD card for free(no rebates needed). I would also be inclined to buy more expensive electronics in the US; they're around the same price or even more expensive in China, plus there's the risk of being ripped off. And you probably wouldn't get a warranty either. Quote
