YuehanHao Posted May 9, 2007 at 02:59 AM Report Posted May 9, 2007 at 02:59 AM I am trying to write a story in Chinese that includes a time machine. If anyone could help me say the following phrases in Chinese, I would appreciate your help (I made some guesses): 1. I am about to travel in time back to the time of your childhood. (我就要旅行回你的童年的时候去了。)? I bet your time machine can't even travel back to yesterday. (very similar to the question above). (我以为你的时间机器连昨天也不能旅行回去。)? 2. He flew the time machine too fast. (他太快地驾驶了时间机器。)? - is 驾驶 the correct verb here for a flying time machine? 3. He is stranded in ancient China. (他 / 在古代的中国 / 搁浅的)?- have no idea how to combine the three parts of the sentence or rewrite more suitably. 谢谢, 约翰好! Quote

I am about to travel in time back to the time of your childhood.(我就要旅行回你的童年的时候去了。)? 我就要回到你的童年去旅游。 I bet your time machine can't even travel back to yesterday. (very similar to the question above).(我以为你的时间机器连昨天也不能旅行回去。)? 我敢打赌,你的时光机连昨天都回不去。 2. He flew the time machine too fast.(他太快地驾驶了时间机器。)? - is 驾驶 the correct verb here for a flying time machine? Yes, 驾驶 is a correct verb her for a flying time machine, but you can also use the verb “开”, for we say “开车drive a car” and “开飞机 fly an airplane”. 他把时间机开得太快了。 3. He is stranded in ancient China.(他 / 在古代的中国 / 搁浅的)?- have no idea how to combine the three parts of the sentence or rewrite more suitably. 他在中国古代搁浅了。"Stranded" here is used as a verb, not an adjective. (I think it seems like that 他把时光机开得太快了,所以他跑到中国古代去了.) 约翰, I think translation is not a word-to-word job, hehe. Thanks! Quote
againstwind Posted May 9, 2007 at 01:34 PM Report Posted May 9, 2007 at 01:34 PM 1. I am about to travel in time back to the time of your childhood.(我就要旅行回你的童年的时候去了。)? 我就要做时间旅行返回你的童年/童年时代去了。 He is stranded in ancient China. 他滞留在了中国古代。/ 他滞留在了中国古代,回不来了。 Or let's get some literary grace: 他迷失于古代中国。/ 他迷失于古代中国,回不来了。 Quote
