As a verb complement tendency, it expresses: 1.the completion of an action with the meaning of achieving a goal. 我想不起来你叫什么名字了。 他把钱藏了起来。 2. the start of an action which will probably go on. 这双鞋穿起来很舒服。 机器运转起来了。 他笑了起来。 3. from down to up 飞机飞了起来。 我拣起来一块石头。 4. speculation or consideration 看起来,他不会同意的。 算起来,他已经离开故乡快三十年了。 As an adjective complement for tendency, it expresses that the persistence of some state or the growth of some degree. And the adjectives are usually with positive meaning. e.g. 听爸爸的话,不要放弃,要坚强起来! 她的身体一天天地好起来了。 来看演出的人逐渐多了起来。 Quote
