jpmarkka Posted May 16, 2007 at 01:00 PM Report Posted May 16, 2007 at 01:00 PM Hi. I was wondering one thing here one day. I have heard that Daoist monastries in China doesn´t take in any foreigners as monks. Is it true? I have heard that in some other countries it´s possible but not in China for some reason. I am myself a Daoist from Finland and I´m very curious to know is it a myth or is it the cruel truth. Also I´ve heard that some Buddhist monastries in China does take also foreigners as monks. (Sorry if I have bad english and someone doesn´t understand what I´m wrtiting about.) Quote
againstwind Posted May 18, 2007 at 06:09 AM Report Posted May 18, 2007 at 06:09 AM I don't know whether Daoist temples in China take in any foreigners as monks or not. I just know as a religion, Daoism is declining now. I wonder, as a Daoist like you said, what you're interested in, Daoist philosophy or religion? Actually, you needn't have to be a monk if you're enthusiastic for Daoism, I think. Quote
jpmarkka Posted May 18, 2007 at 10:26 AM Author Report Posted May 18, 2007 at 10:26 AM Mostly philosophy but also religion. In religion I just don´t believe to those gods that came in later (meaning some water gods and so on). And that is true. I do not need to become a monk but I was just curious and asked about it. But a life of a monk would be kinda challenging and maybe interesting. Everyone isn´t ready to give up of the pleasures of life. Quote
