geek_frappa Posted April 5, 2004 at 08:07 PM Report Posted April 5, 2004 at 08:07 PM 人人皆知 vs. 大家都知道 .... which one sounds more CHINESE? Quote
sunyata Posted April 5, 2004 at 11:34 PM Report Posted April 5, 2004 at 11:34 PM I think they both sound and look Chinese but perhaps the second one is more colloquial, while the first one looks like it would be used in writing btw, does 大家 always have to be used with 都? 大家都知道 vs. 大家知道? Quote
geek_frappa Posted April 5, 2004 at 11:40 PM Author Report Posted April 5, 2004 at 11:40 PM yes it does, sunyata. thanks. wow. even some some chinese don't speak good chinese. Quote
trooper Posted April 6, 2004 at 12:28 AM Report Posted April 6, 2004 at 12:28 AM You were right first time, geek_frappa, with your title to this thread! You can say “大家知道”as well as "大家都知道”. When 大家 is the subject of the sentence, 都 very often follows, but it is not essential. Quote
sunyata Posted April 6, 2004 at 05:42 PM Report Posted April 6, 2004 at 05:42 PM lol, I wasn't sure at all...i just remember someone telling me that 大家 is usually used with 都。Is adding 都 more grammatically correct? In other words, would your writing look more "educated," if you use 都 or it doesn't matter at all? Quote
Quest Posted April 6, 2004 at 06:13 PM Report Posted April 6, 2004 at 06:13 PM it's like "all" in English. We know. We all know. (chinese and english are very similar after all!) Quote
