vital Posted May 18, 2007 at 04:20 AM Report Posted May 18, 2007 at 04:20 AM So I've been really interested in volunteering for the Olympics in China but my Mandarin is very poor. I took 3 semesters in college and practiced a lil here and there and I'm still trying to improve. I am currently listening to chinesepod's, pimsleur, fsi and other instructional audios to improve my mandarin. Does anyone know how well your Mandarin needs to be to volunteer for the Olympics? Is anyone else here interested in volunteering? Quote
againstwind Posted May 18, 2007 at 05:51 AM Report Posted May 18, 2007 at 05:51 AM Actually, I used to download the volunteer application form and fill it, but haven't submitted yet. Seemingly they don't request Non-Chinese applicants have to speak Mandarine very well. English is OK. And if you can speak other languages, especially which few Chinese can speak, like Finnish, Greek, Portuguese, Urdu, Turkish and so on, you'll probably be prospective. Quote
Huang Jialuo Posted May 18, 2007 at 06:34 AM Report Posted May 18, 2007 at 06:34 AM I would definitely love to be part of the volunteering program! It would be awesome if they accept my willingness to be of service! I am going to China from September to January, so I am really looking forward to great moments there. Quote
vital Posted May 18, 2007 at 07:33 AM Author Report Posted May 18, 2007 at 07:33 AM Well I actually will be a Chinese applicant but I speak fluent Cantonese. I had no idea they were accepting non-chinese applicants... Do you know how the application process goes? will they interview you? I'm looking for other volunteers who would like to join me as I will be traveling alone. Quote
xianu Posted May 18, 2007 at 02:37 PM Report Posted May 18, 2007 at 02:37 PM Where does one go to get the volunteer application? Quote
vital Posted May 18, 2007 at 04:41 PM Author Report Posted May 18, 2007 at 04:41 PM Go to this link and apply according to your location. http://en.beijing2008.cn/55/89/article214028955_3.shtml The chances of getting in seems to be slim now since they're only taking 100k volunteers and 500k has already applied but I'll try anyway. I'm wondering if I'm from the USA, do I apply as overseas Chinese or foreigner? Quote
