dochido Posted May 19, 2007 at 05:25 PM Report Posted May 19, 2007 at 05:25 PM I will be in beijing this summer to study chinese at the blcu. My friend is also moving there to work and his office is located close to the "yonghegong" subway station. I would like to stay with him, but judging from the subway map, it seems that commute would be quite difficult to "wudakou" station and I would need to transfer once. In terms of time length, how long would this commute be? thanks! Quote
imron Posted May 20, 2007 at 02:41 PM Report Posted May 20, 2007 at 02:41 PM Probably about 30-40 minutes, depending on how long you wait for the train at the interchange. Quote
Frankiris Posted May 22, 2007 at 02:38 AM Report Posted May 22, 2007 at 02:38 AM usually, class starts at 8:00.you have to get up very early in the morning.I think you should reconsider.Living on campus should be the first option. Quote
roddy Posted May 22, 2007 at 02:46 AM Report Posted May 22, 2007 at 02:46 AM Living on campus is generally more expensive and lower quality than off-campus options. It's easier to arrange and is ok for short term stays. That commute is quite feasible, the Yonghegong to Xizhimen subway run isn't very long. You'll have a ten minute walk, give or take, from the Wudaokou stop to BLCU. Assuming a similar walk to the station at Yonghegong, you're probably looking at an hour door-to-door. Quote
gato Posted May 22, 2007 at 02:53 AM Report Posted May 22, 2007 at 02:53 AM An hour door-to-door. With classes starting at 8am, you are probably looking at getting up at 6:30 at the latest. Quote
adrianlondon Posted May 22, 2007 at 09:32 AM Report Posted May 22, 2007 at 09:32 AM Yeah, that's nasty. And if BLCU is anything like BNU, then at 8am sharp some teacher will shout "ting xie!!" at you and you'll have a test. Took me a while to adjust to that, especialy as I don't usually start work until 9:30 and even then I take 30 minutes chatting with colleagues, drinking coffee and checking emails before I really get going. Roddy's right about campus accommodation being expensive and only suitable for the shrot term, but I'd class short term as one semester. However, some don't, and would class short term as 4 weeks or less. You decide. I do recommend, however, that you live much closer to BLCU than Yonghegong. Quote
