7jason7 Posted April 6, 2004 at 07:13 AM Report Posted April 6, 2004 at 07:13 AM Hi, I've posted here a few times and have been surprised at how helpful the audience can be. So here I go again. Five years ago I took two years of Chinese (traditional characters) at an American college. Learned approx. 700 - 900. Since then I've not studied at all. If I do a 9 month intensive language course in Taipei or Beijing, how much improvement could I expect? Read a newspaper? Know how many characters? Thanks all. Quote
Lu Posted April 6, 2004 at 11:41 AM Report Posted April 6, 2004 at 11:41 AM Expect tremendous improvement. Reading the newspaper still won't be easy though. Number of characters you'll know I don't know. But 9 months of studying Chinese in a Chinese-speaking environment is absolutely very good for your Chinese skills. Quote
