keith Posted April 6, 2004 at 05:51 PM Report Posted April 6, 2004 at 05:51 PM Anyone know if it is possible to take an intensive mandarin course during the autumn/wintermonths (ie. october to december)? Ideally in Beijing please, thanks! Quote
sunyata Posted April 6, 2004 at 05:54 PM Report Posted April 6, 2004 at 05:54 PM try searching here: http://www.educasian.com There are a bunch of winter sessions I haven't heard of Universities offering winter programs, but maybe there are some. anyone know? Quote
JoH Posted April 6, 2004 at 06:42 PM Report Posted April 6, 2004 at 06:42 PM I'm looking for a summer course at the moment, and found this link for BLCU which might be helpful: http://www.blcu.edu.cn/english/lzb/clp2004.htm They do a course from Sep 16 - Dec 8, if that is any good for you. You can do 20 or 30 hours per week. I haven't been there so I've no idea what the courses are like. Jo Quote
JoH Posted April 6, 2004 at 06:48 PM Report Posted April 6, 2004 at 06:48 PM I know you said ideally in Beijing, but you might be interested in this in Nanjing. They say they offer courses 1-16 weeks all year round. Again, I can't vouch for their courses, I'm just thinking of applying there myself. http://www.nju.edu.cn/cps/site/NJU/hwxy/EnglishVersion/abroad_sqrx_shortstudy.htm Jo Quote
Zhende ma? Posted April 7, 2004 at 05:35 PM Report Posted April 7, 2004 at 05:35 PM Beijing Normal University allows you to enroll for a semester in the college of Chinese Language and Culture to take Chinese classes. It lasts from September-December. It's reasonably priced with tuition at $1400 and board I think around half that. They have a study abroad page at www.bnulxsh.com Quote
keith Posted April 7, 2004 at 06:00 PM Author Report Posted April 7, 2004 at 06:00 PM Thanks guys, very interesting information. Seems Beijing has many universities...any personal recommendations? (e.g. BLCU vs Beijing Normal vs Beida etc?) Quote
sunyata Posted April 7, 2004 at 07:03 PM Report Posted April 7, 2004 at 07:03 PM i think both Beida and BCLU are very good...BCLU is more known for teaching foreigners Chinese though. Beida has less foreign students and is one of the top universities in China, while BCLU is not a s prestigious (from a Chinese perspective)...prices are about the same, so I would just pick one Quote
Nephand Posted April 7, 2004 at 07:33 PM Report Posted April 7, 2004 at 07:33 PM keith - Beijing Normal is the one the London School of Oriental and African Studies sends their second year students to for the full year. Since SOAS is supposedly one of the best places in the UK to learn Chinese, it can't be too bad if they have linked up with them Quote
Guest nuer Posted April 8, 2004 at 11:01 AM Report Posted April 8, 2004 at 11:01 AM I have gone to both Beida and BLCU. BLCU does have winter courses but you might consider Beijing Normal as well. Beida has no winter courses. Having studied in three different schools, I don't think it really matters where you study as long as you get out to chat with the locals and study hard after classes. BLCU offers great opps for friendship...with other foreign students... Quote
