Studing at TLI - forming a group

Hey Guys,

I'm putting this in the Study in BJ section, but it could probably go in the classifieds too. From the excellent reviews that it has received in this forum, I've decided to go with TLI for my Chinese language studies. Their mainstay is individual instruction, however that is too pricy for me - so I'm looking for maybe 2-3 people to form a class with which would be much cheaper. I've done self-study for Chinese in the states since November, and still basically consider myself a beginner.

Message me if any of you are interested in starting a group. I'm very motivated to learn!

Might be worth advertising in That's Beijing too (&/ specifying when you'll be in Beijing, for how long etc...)

Good point - I'll be here for the long-term as I have a good job opportunity, but my boss is making me learn Mandarin and get to a proficient level before I start. I'll be here 1+ year. I'm actually already in Beijing, so feel free to message me if you want to meet up.

Hi Mike,

My name is Tom. I am currently studying Chinese in Shenzhen in the south of China. I am looking to change courses and continue my studying from the end of July beginning of August. I am just researching my options at the moment, but I am definitely interested in small class learning. There is a good chance that I come to Beijing, but it wouldn't be for a few weeks. Anyway, forming a group with you is potentially a viable option for me. I just want to quiz you on a couple of points.

1. How many hours would you be looking to study each day?

2. How many weeks / months would you want to hold a class for?

3. Would you be looking to simply learn to speak fluently, or are you interested in learning to read and write too?

I too am extremely motivated to learn. I can presently read and write between 250-300 characters, but I too would consider myself a beginner student. I'm looking to vastly improve speaking and listening skills.

Anyhow, if forming a class in a few weeks appeals to you, let me know.

All the best

Tom
