LuBaerte Posted May 28, 2007 at 06:07 PM Report Posted May 28, 2007 at 06:07 PM Ni hao! For my oral exam I'm preparing a text, I have a problem with the sentence: "every Tuesday I go to swim with a colleague", how should I translate it? Further, do I use 马马虎虎 with 很, like in 天气很马马虎虎? xiexie! Lu Ba'erte Quote

againstwind Posted May 29, 2007 at 09:55 AM Report Posted May 29, 2007 at 09:55 AM Further, do I use 马马虎虎 with 很, like in 天气很马马虎虎? I'm afraid it's not correct. Your teacher or textbook may tell you that 很 is an adverb bofore an adjective indicating 'very or quite'. But actually, 很 can't modify all adjectives. Can not say 很错, 很永远, 很亲爱, 很温, 很雪白, 很马马虎虎 and so on. 很 is a troublesome difficulty in learning Chinese. Quote
LuBaerte Posted May 29, 2007 at 10:38 AM Author Report Posted May 29, 2007 at 10:38 AM OK, but here I don't want to use 很 to indicate "very", but as in "hen hao" or "hen leng". So I should say 天气马马虎虎 , without 很 or anything else?µ B Quote
adrianlondon Posted May 29, 2007 at 03:48 PM Report Posted May 29, 2007 at 03:48 PM As far as I can tell, "real" Chinese people never say 马马虎虎; it's just something that foreigners learning the language like to say. Quote
venture160 Posted May 29, 2007 at 05:06 PM Report Posted May 29, 2007 at 05:06 PM I've heard 马马虎虎 used on occaision, but its not used alot. you could say 今天的天气还可以吧, or 今天的天气呢? 可以说马马虎虎吧。 That sounds a bit more natural. Quote
Jingjing-N Posted May 30, 2007 at 06:03 AM Report Posted May 30, 2007 at 06:03 AM “天气” should not be followed by “马马虎虎”。“马马虎虎” does not match “很”。We usually say “你最近过的怎么样?”“马马虎虎。”“你考试考得怎么样?”“马马虎虎。” Are you preparing the revised HSK(oral exam)?I suggest you to watch Chinese programs or find a partner to practice. Short-term intensive oral practice is important to examinations, I think. Quote
