liangweiming Posted June 5, 2007 at 01:03 AM Report Share Posted June 5, 2007 at 01:03 AM Hi I am looking for some kind of dictionary software in Chinese that would let you right click on any Chinese word in a text and offer a explanation of the word in Chinese. I know there are Chinese software like this that will translate Chinese words to English (and the other way around), but I want to find a software thats all in Chinese. Does anyone here have any ideas ?
insraq Posted June 5, 2007 at 01:34 PM Report Share Posted June 5, 2007 at 01:34 PM There's a software called “现代汉语词典 V2007” It can meet your need, but it's designed for native Chinese. Get more info here: http://www.skycn.com/soft/26132.html
xianu Posted June 5, 2007 at 03:52 PM Report Share Posted June 5, 2007 at 03:52 PM The Hanyu Da Cidian CD rom (Commercial Press HK, 2002) worked really well for me when I was not using the Tablet PC (Doesn't seem to want to load on the Tablet. ANyone have any experience with that?). However, instead of right clicking, I copied and pasted the characters into the program and found the word. If you are at the stage of using Chinese-Chinese dictionaries, this is a great one, sort of like an Oxford-English encyclopedic dictionary, and excellent for dealing with more complex and traditional texts (I don't mean traditional character set, but works from traditional China, ie.e good for classical). I have also heard of Xiandai hanyu cidian on CD as well, but have never used it. It has the (most of or all the) words of the hard copy Xiandai hanyu cidian, and I think it is widely available. In the states, I know Cheng-Tsui.com sells both of these dictionaries.

ipsi() Posted June 22, 2007 at 02:22 AM Report Share Posted June 22, 2007 at 02:22 AM PlecoDict is a fantastic dictionary utility for PPC or Palm OS devices.
imron Posted June 28, 2007 at 04:28 AM Report Share Posted June 28, 2007 at 04:28 AM Deleted a whole bunch of one liners saying "... is cool/great/fantastic/the best". Rather than just posting a one-liner, if you want to recommend a dictionary product, state the reasons why you like it, or at the very least provide links to the company that makes the software to make it easy for others to check it out. ABCinChina Posted July 12, 2007 at 05:21 AM Report Share Posted July 12, 2007 at 05:21 AM The best Dictionary Software is Kingsoft Powerword 2007. You can see translations for both English and Chinese by just putting your pointer over the word in question. It has a huge dictionary that is very simple to use. The only bad thing is when you run your mouse pointer over a Chinese word, there is no pinyin. Do a google search and you'll find what you need. Also, you can input your own custom words with translations. I've been using it for a year now, and its great!
madizi Posted July 12, 2007 at 06:40 PM Report Share Posted July 12, 2007 at 06:40 PM I agree. I'm using Kingsoft Powerword 2006 (Jinshan Ciba) and it has the same features as ABC's. Because I'm sinologist, I need a reliable and large dictionary. Kingsoft Powerword is, for now, the best that I ever had.
gato Posted July 13, 2007 at 02:55 AM Report Share Posted July 13, 2007 at 02:55 AM StarDict is great, too. There are many dictionaries available. Try DrEye4in1 as a start. http://stardict.sourceforge.net/Dictionaries_zh_CN.php DrEye4in1词典
madizi Posted July 13, 2007 at 10:12 AM Report Share Posted July 13, 2007 at 10:12 AM Oh, yes, of course, StarDict. It is a kind of open-source "version" of Kingsoft Powerword, but not so sophisticated. But still worth trying. You have Windows and Linux version.
