Translate English business book to Chinese

Recommended Posts

Posted

A business associate of mine is interested in having an English business book he wrote translated into Chinese, published, marketed and distributed in China.

1) Any idea how much it would cost to translate 150,000 words of a business practices book into Chinese? Roddy, I know you quoted me some prices for Chinese->English. How abou the other way around? I would expect finding a Chinese person to do the translation would probably be recommended.

2) Does Hong Kong use the same books as the mainland? I know the characters are the same even though they speak Cantonese. I know "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kyosaki is available here in Beijing. Would you guess the same translation is used here as in Hong Kong, and Taiwan?

3) Anyone know any publishers on the mainland?

Thanks.

Whether Hong Kong use the same book as the mainland is really hard to tell. For example, William Shakespeare’s great works have been translated by translators in China mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Please kindly note that Chinese people in Hong Kong, Macaw, Taiwan and some other overseas China Town use traditional Chinese characters, while we mainland Chinese people use simplified characters.

I think the translation used in China mainland can be used in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Of course, it would be much better, if you can change the simplified characters into traditional ones, for considering Hong Kong people and Taiwan people’s habit of reading.

Anyway, good luck!

Thanks!
