I'll go to Changsha in July and going to live there for two years (or maybe more). Did anybody on this forum lived there for longer period of time? How is it there? Curious, I told my (ex)colleagues from sinology department about Changsha and many didn't know where it is.:conf

What kind of Sinologist doesn't know Changsha? It is a very important city in Chinese history (Think Chairman Mao!).

Sorry, never lived there.

Yea, I thought the same. This area is known at least from Han dynasty on, if not from Chu state on. Besides, near Changsha is Mawangdui, where alternative versions of Laozi and Yijing were found. And of course, Hunan is Mao Zedong's province.

So, did anyone at least traveled through Changsha or ever been in Hunan?

I lived in Hunan for 2 years (1996-97), but not in Changsha. If your questions were more specific I might be able to answer. "How is it there?" is way too vague.

You're right. For the beginning, where have you lived in Hunan and how was there? Besides Mao's birth place, what else is worth seeing in Hunan?

And of coures, if there is someone who has some info about Changsha, please, tell me how it is there. Thx!:)

Hi there,

my wife is from Changsha and I have been there several times staying for 4/5 weeks each time (March 2007 was the last trip). We plan to move there at some point in the future. I love it there!

So much to tell its hard to put in writing. What do you want to know and I'll try and answer.

I lived for two years in a tiny village in the far west of Hunan. Totally different from Changsha.

Other places to visit? Try Google.

You're not going to get much response to questions like "How was there?" Too vague. What do you want? That I should write a book?

Ask specific questions, you may get answers.

Thank you for all replies and sorry for such a long delay. Liuzhou, thank you for links.

In mean time, I got some information about life in Changsha from a colleague who lived there.
