flameproof Posted June 11, 2007 at 07:20 AM Report Posted June 11, 2007 at 07:20 AM I feel glad that carbombs are forbidden in Beijing. It's very thoughtful of the authorities and it give terrorists a clear message that this is not allowed! Well done! Quote
againstwind Posted June 11, 2007 at 10:15 AM Report Posted June 11, 2007 at 10:15 AM Woo~~~Cool! But what does the sign above mean? I don't think I got it. Quote
imron Posted June 11, 2007 at 10:54 AM Report Posted June 11, 2007 at 10:54 AM It might also make you happy to know that bombs are also forbidden on trains, the metro, buses and other key places It's a good thing we have the signs to remind us Quote
mr.stinky Posted June 11, 2007 at 11:48 AM Report Posted June 11, 2007 at 11:48 AM it appears that in guangxi, bombs ARE allowed, even though the sign indicates that they are dangerous. not allowed are guns, extra seasoning in your hotpot, lit matches (lit ciggies are fine), fish in aquariums (in a bag is okay), and monkeys (or dwarves, i can't tell). from experience, i know it IS allowed to carry live chickens, and to let your kid crap from an upper sleeper berth over the rail into the aisle. gougou Posted June 11, 2007 at 03:58 PM Report Posted June 11, 2007 at 03:58 PM This is getting talked about more than the Summer Palace on here. Maybe Beijing should adapt their guidebooks... Quote
heifeng Posted June 12, 2007 at 01:14 AM Report Posted June 12, 2007 at 01:14 AM Hmm...it's actually amazing how many pressure vessels carrying a mystery substance you see rolling around in the back of trucks and even strapped onto the back of bikes around here. Yet another reason not to tailgate... I was also on a bus once when some guy carrying some sort of canister was basically voted off our bus...it was kinda interesting, mob jeering to get off the bus and all but back, to that photo: it looks more like don't set fire crackers off on the top of your car to me, but car bomb or a pressure vessel plus flammable/combustable substance plus anything that can become shrapnel don't sound fun to me Quote
Carolien Posted December 14, 2007 at 03:27 PM Report Posted December 14, 2007 at 03:27 PM Does someone know what this traffic sigh means? I took this picture in Beijing and have been thinking about it a lot but I can't figure out what it means. Don't set cars on fire? Don't light a campfire on top of a car? Don't blow up cars? Carolien Quote
muyongshi Posted December 15, 2007 at 01:34 AM Report Posted December 15, 2007 at 01:34 AM Why couldn't it mean road rage???? Quote
mr.stinky Posted December 15, 2007 at 08:11 AM Report Posted December 15, 2007 at 08:11 AM on further thought, and drinking, i think it means "no transport of japanese anime characters on roof racks" Quote
imron Posted December 15, 2007 at 08:31 AM Report Posted December 15, 2007 at 08:31 AM It almost looks like the flying spaghetti monster, and this would make sense as we know Beijing doesn't take kindly to wacky religious movements Quote
liuzhou Posted December 15, 2007 at 12:19 PM Report Posted December 15, 2007 at 12:19 PM I'm told it is supposed to mean don't pollute. Quite how that works was not explained. Quote
zozzen Posted December 15, 2007 at 04:23 PM Report Posted December 15, 2007 at 04:23 PM I guess it means that it's not allowed to bring explosive materials on cars in those areas. The same regulation as airports. Quote
shibole Posted December 16, 2007 at 04:47 AM Report Posted December 16, 2007 at 04:47 AM I think it clearly means that you're not allowed to light a campfire on top of your car for purposes of roasting chicken. After all, people may get kind of hungry during the olympics with all the restaurants full. The car does not actually seem to be exploding, but totally unharmed by the explosion. Maybe it means "Cars are bulletproof and explosion-proof! Trying to bomb them won't work as the explosion will bounce off the top!" Or given the slash mark through it maybe it means "Cars will NOT remain unharmed by explosions! You have been warned!" Quote
adrianlondon Posted December 16, 2007 at 11:40 AM Report Posted December 16, 2007 at 11:40 AM It means ... do not use your car to carry explosive goods. Use public transport instead and help cut down traffic jams. Quote
