Roidesechecs Posted June 20, 2007 at 01:00 AM Report Posted June 20, 2007 at 01:00 AM Hi I'm currently living in Canada and I am going to get married in China. I was wondering if anyone can tell what I need to move there such as visas, paperwork and other things? Quote
banjo67xxx Posted June 21, 2007 at 08:59 PM Report Posted June 21, 2007 at 08:59 PM You can't get citizenship, if thats what you're thinking ... First off, you'll need to get a visa to enter China. A 30-day L-visa is easiest. Then, once you're married, you can take your marriage certificate, your id, your wife's id, your wife's family id, your temporary residence registration documents, and your application for long term residence to the local PSB. They'll either give you a 6-month or 12-month L-visa, but you still wont legally be allowed to work. Next go find an employer who's willing to help you get a work Visa. Then go back to the PSB with all the documents again, and your job offer and ask for a 12 month Z-visa. You'll now be able to work as well as live in China. Finally, repeat the last step every year for 5 years, then you can try applying for a D-visa. These are rarer than rocking horse s**t, so I'll be amazed if you get one. Quote
Jive Turkey Posted June 22, 2007 at 02:18 AM Report Posted June 22, 2007 at 02:18 AM You can't get citizenship, if thats what you're thinking ... Huh? Sure he/she can. It just takes forever and requires renunciation of previous citizenship. Then, once you're married, you can take your marriage certificate, your id, your wife's id, your wife's family id, your temporary residence registration documents, and your application for long term residence to the local PSB. Where did the OP say anything about anybody's gender? Quote
cdn_in_bj Posted June 22, 2007 at 04:44 AM Report Posted June 22, 2007 at 04:44 AM Asides from the visa, which has already been covered, you also need some sort of document from your country to show that you are currently not married. Assuming that you're a Canadian citizen, you can actually get this document at a Canadian consulate in China, but depending on where you are going in China it may be easier for you to take care of this before you leave Canada. In addition, you will also need to get this document translated into Chinese by a translation firm in China. Once you get to China, you will need to look into what needs to be done for the actual marraige registration, but I hear the process is very easy and fast now (same day approval provided the documentation is complete). Good luck, and congratulations! Quote
