Hi folks

As users of the Beijing subway would have noticed, beggars with microphone and amplifyers are a regular scene.

To my ears at least, it seems that they all sing the same song. Is this the case? And if so, what is it? and is there some sort of cultural context behind the song/s? What are they singing about?

I've been wondering this for about a year!

thanks,

Y

The only troubadour I heard on the subway in Beijing was singing "Laoshu ai dami" (like a mouse loves rice; a simile describing how much the singer loves 'you')---a ridiculously popular song.

zhwj: Thanks. That's the one I seem to hear time and time again. Is this a song that a lot of Chinese people know?
