Yanne Posted June 27, 2007 at 05:24 PM Report Posted June 27, 2007 at 05:24 PM Greetings! As it appears I will be residing in Beijing for some time yet, I was wondering if anyone knows of a regular [weekly] social rock climbing group or would be keen to form one. Interested parties do drop me a note! Thank ye! Quote
simonlaing Posted June 29, 2007 at 08:39 AM Report Posted June 29, 2007 at 08:39 AM Hi Yanne, I am based in Nanjing. Rockclimbing isn't the most popular sport among the not so sporty CHinese. There was a rock climbing Bar here but I think it went bust. You should check out the out door specialy shops in your area usually they are good sources of infomation of the rock climbining in your area. Also the was an outdoor adventure club in Nanjing you can look into that . They did rock climbing but also ropes courses and rafting I think. Some cities have Hash runs of Expats Random runs or walks with beer or pot at the end. These sometimes will be sources infomation as well. Also try searching for some tourist agencies that might do day trips for this kind of stuff. Good luck, Simon:) Quote
akdn Posted June 29, 2007 at 09:13 AM Report Posted June 29, 2007 at 09:13 AM I just did a quick search for the climbing club at the University of Geosciences in Beijing (北京地质大学)and came up with this advertisement for beginner's climbing lessons. The article is from 2005, so no guarantees that the club still exists, but you never know. The article gives the location of two climbing walls, and contact numbers. Why not just turn up at one of the climbing walls, and see who's around, or just give them a call. Not sure about your Chinese, but if you need a hand with a bit of translation, just send me a PM Quote
akdn Posted June 29, 2007 at 09:23 AM Report Posted June 29, 2007 at 09:23 AM Here is a picture of the climbing wall at Beijing 地大, accompanying an article about a recent college climbing competition that was held there in May 2007. Looks pretty cool. Quote
Yanne Posted June 29, 2007 at 03:09 PM Author Report Posted June 29, 2007 at 03:09 PM Thanks for the information. I used to climb regularly at the University of Geo Sciences. Just I'm moving to the Chaoyang area soon and will also work odd hours, so its not particularly convenient anymore. In any case, I'm just wondering if anyone's interested in starting a regular climbing group (i.e. once a week type thing) at wherever is agreed upon. If interested, do drop me a note. Quote
rbarpar Posted July 28, 2007 at 11:19 PM Report Posted July 28, 2007 at 11:19 PM I'm interested. I just moved to Beijing from the US to attend Tsinghua. Quote
katariina Posted July 30, 2007 at 12:23 PM Report Posted July 30, 2007 at 12:23 PM damn, my Chinese is not that good that i'd be able to read the article . anyways, I'm moving to Beijing in January (till June-July) and will contact you later (if you're still in Beijing then). I'm already concerned that I can't climb there as much as I want... Quote

daiow Posted August 20, 2007 at 04:44 AM Report Posted August 20, 2007 at 04:44 AM Hi! I'm possibly moving there for work and would love to know if there is a more "full-service" climbing gym in Beijing? I love the type in the San Francisco, CA area: routes, yoga, spinning class, etc. I hear there are a lot of big gyms, but I haven't been able to find climbing-specific ones. Though if it's not a big sport with the locals I can understand that there might not be one. Thanks! And I hope to climb with you all when I arrive! Dai:) Quote
