How come "review" without "view"?

Recommended Posts

Often run into "review" when I am translating but there is no "view" or alike in context.

So I guess "review" means no "re" but "view repeatedly" or "view carefully".

Am I right? Someone please tell me. Thanks ahead!

Yes there is. In order to review anything, you'll have to look through (= view) it. And yes, the original sense is still there: you look through something again with the assumption that the author/ writer must have already done so when s/he published it. Anyway, when you use the word "review", you don't normally think in terms of the above. You just want to examine it carefully and give your verdict/ opinion/ view.

The document itself is being re-viewed; it's just that the original viewer wasn't you. It'd be whoever wrote it ;)
