Ian_Lee Posted April 12, 2004 at 08:10 PM Report Posted April 12, 2004 at 08:10 PM Another interesting pair of Kanji that has funny meanings. For 湯, Chinese strictly means soup while Japanese means bath water. So Chinese drinks 湯 while Japanese bathe in 湯. (I guess some Chinese guys don't mind drinking a cup of water that Rena Tanaka just bathed in.) For 汁, Chinese means juice/sauce while Japanese means soup. So when we drink the miso soup, in Chinese it means that we are drinking the miso juice! Quote
skylee Posted April 12, 2004 at 11:10 PM Report Posted April 12, 2004 at 11:10 PM 湯 also means hot water in Japanese, no? And 湯豆腐? Quote
