English to English translator: any demand?

I can't understand heavily Chinese accented English. And I think Chinese should stick to British English or just don't fake up an accent. A mixture of Mandarin and American accents is just horrible enough.

hehe I have to agree with this a bit. For some reason I think that when Chinese speakers have a british accent it sounds better to me. I've come to the conclusion it may just be the 'R' pronunciation or something. Since an american accent has a heavier R, if someone wants to have an American accent (Unless it's a boston or NY accent I suppose) then you gotta know how to say the R. If you have a british accent I'll be more forgiving on the pronunciations of 'world', "word"....and other words with R's. The 'th' problem though is like nails on the chalkboard to me ....no matter what accent someone is using. Go for an island 't' instead of 'th' if it's really that impossible, but please no 'sings' for things and 'sree' for three...etc.

For the most part I think I can understand really mangled spoken English, no matter what someone's native language~ it's just a matter of how much decoding time i need after someone says something to figure out what he or she means. I think that a person's frequency of exposure to foreign speakers of a language definitely helps their 'listening comprehension" (and also contributes to the deterioration of the listeners own language skills eheh:evil:) Written English is another story....sometimes I might have to put that english 'translation' into google E-C and see what I get back to have clue what's going on....Perhaps thats when I would look for an English to English translator...maybe google can just do English to English translation....that's innovative..

I had this idea like a blinding flash and thought it was as unique as the guy who invented Cat's Eyes. Not so eh? :-) I would be interested in living in Beijing and doing as you have done. Would you be able to offer any assistance? I visited China last week for the Eclipse and was bowled over by the country.

Just being an english-to-english interpret isn't attractive enough, but you can package yourself as a humble secretary from the saturated western economy and long for opportunities in China. Chinese boss will feel damned good at having a laowai secretary.
