This is to get them to get serious and shape up in life. These people are actually too happy in life. "Cheer up" generally speaks to people who are sad, so "别吊儿郎当的！" should not be used as "cheer up". I also heard the use of this term "别吊儿郎当的！" since childhood. Quote
