z0rgg Posted July 25, 2007 at 12:14 PM Report Posted July 25, 2007 at 12:14 PM Hi there, I'm in Shanghai right now and visitng Beijing this August and I'm buying so many tools at Shanghai Foreing Languages Bookstore, what an amazing place! However, I couldn't find (or maybe they didn't understand me when asking) a measure dictionary. I mean, they have several books of measures which explain the maning and uses of every measure providing several examples for each one. But what I really want is a dictionary of measures properly. I mean, what if I want to use an ambiguous word and I don't know which measure should I use? ge1 may be ok, but I really want to KNOW the measure of it, if it has. So, since bilingual dicionaries dont provide the measure of the nouns (at least none of my three dictionaries does) I think this should be an obvious and quite common tool, right? A glossary book just to know the measure of any word, right? I hope I've explained it ok. So, does anyone has heard of something like this? Please tell me the title of such book if you know it, please, please. Btw, I'm coursing a summer program at Shanghai Donghua Daxue right now. Will post a long thread when I come back to my homeland about my excellent experience here. Cheers! Quote
roddy Posted July 25, 2007 at 12:25 PM Report Posted July 25, 2007 at 12:25 PM Perhaps this one - it has 名量词搭配表Collocations of Commonly Used Measure Words and Nouns 动量词搭配表 Collocations of Commonly Used Measure Words and Verbs which if it's arranged by noun / verb might be what you need. This one also has "a collocation table of liangci and their nouns is attached." Glad you are enjoying your course, look forward to that long report Quote
z0rgg Posted July 25, 2007 at 01:11 PM Author Report Posted July 25, 2007 at 01:11 PM @roddy, thanks for your search. However, I saw those two books at the bookstore and they both just explain the meaning and uses of every measure providing a couple of examples for each one. It's not what I'm looking for Quote
skylee Posted July 25, 2007 at 01:32 PM Report Posted July 25, 2007 at 01:32 PM I don't understand what you are looking for. I mean, what if I want to use an ambiguous word and I don't know which measure should I use? ge1 may be ok, but I really want to KNOW the measure of it, if it has. Could you give me an example of such an ambiguous word? Perhaps what you want is just a dictionary which has the appropriate measure word, if applicable, listed under each headword? So that when you want to know what the measure word for 幽夢 is, you just need look up 幽夢 and find that people usually say 一簾幽夢? But perhaps this is not a very good example. With such a dictionary, learners might think that a measure word is missing in "夜來幽夢忽還鄉". sorry. Quote
roddy Posted July 25, 2007 at 02:12 PM Report Posted July 25, 2007 at 02:12 PM Hmm, then I can't help then. The ABC Dictionary does include the measure word for some entries, but not all. Quote
[欧阳江] Posted July 26, 2007 at 10:29 AM Report Posted July 26, 2007 at 10:29 AM Try "A Chinese-English Dictionary of Measure Words" 汉英量词词典 ISBN 7800525686, it costs a paltry ¥20 and you can find it in any book store in China that sells Chinese study materials. Quote
elina Posted July 26, 2007 at 11:19 AM Report Posted July 26, 2007 at 11:19 AM I don’t quite understand z0rgg’s demand in the first post. I guess skylee’s understanding is right, which means z0rgg wants a dictionary, through which he/she can look up a Chinese word, and at the same time the dictionary also gives out its relevant measure words. From this point, the following dictionary might fit the request: A Learner's Chinese Dictionary: Illustrations of the Usages http://www.lovemandarin.com/book.asp?id=3538 六、本词典尽可能地给出了词语的主要反义词、近(同)义词以及常用量词。反义词也包括意义相对的词语,如“笔试-口试”,均用〈反〉注于释义后。近(同)义词用〈近〉引出,列于每个条目或义项末尾;部分附有词义和用法辨析,用辨析标注。量词用[量]引出,附于词语用法说明之后。 See the inside: http://www.lovemandarin.com/wms/Upfiles/2006122834872.jpg(堡垒) http://www.lovemandarin.com/wms/Upfiles/2006122869187.jpg In addition, this book has a “Collocations of Measure Words and Nouns” of 28 pages totally: See the inside: http://www.lovemandarin.com/wms/Upfiles/200772636093.jpg http://www.lovemandarin.com/wms/Upfiles/200772639257.jpg Quote
youpii Posted July 28, 2007 at 09:35 PM Report Posted July 28, 2007 at 09:35 PM These two also do what you want but only have 8.000/10.000 words: 汉语8000词词典 This one is focused on HSK up to the advanced level, with tons of examples http://www.blcup.com/en/list_1.asp?id=292 商务馆学汉语词典 smaller, has some pictures but also more expensive http://www.cp.com.cn/scrp/bookdetail.cfm?iBookNo=7081&sYc=1-1 Quote
