srebelk Posted July 31, 2007 at 12:08 PM Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 at 12:08 PM Also, what's the meaning of this symbol by itself? thanks to all Quote
Lu Posted July 31, 2007 at 12:48 PM Report Posted July 31, 2007 at 12:48 PM The character in your second post, 近, means 'close' (as in 'not far', not as in 'not open'). 親近 means close as in close friends, and I suppose the meaning can be extended to 'affinity'. 家 means home, not exactely the same as family. adrianlondon Posted July 31, 2007 at 01:09 PM Report Posted July 31, 2007 at 01:09 PM Chinese characters are called "hanzi" (pronounced "han dzer"). Kanji is used to refer to Chinese characters which have been taken and used in Japan. They often don't mean the same thing; they just look the same. Quote
srebelk Posted July 31, 2007 at 02:16 PM Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 at 02:16 PM thanks Lu and adrianlondon "家 means home, not exactely the same as family" what's the most appropriate symbol for family? Quote
imron Posted July 31, 2007 at 02:53 PM Report Posted July 31, 2007 at 02:53 PM Perhaps it would be better to tell everyone in more detail what you are trying to have the tattoo express and then people can give you suggestions about the most appropriate characters to use. With just the words "affinity family" it's difficult to know the context, and context is important when choosing the correct characters. Case in point, sometimes 家 can mean family and sometimes it can mean home. It just depends on the context. Quote
srebelk Posted July 31, 2007 at 03:04 PM Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 at 03:04 PM in this case, affinity and family are separated symbols, my intention is not a context with this words. Quote
srebelk Posted August 1, 2007 at 12:30 PM Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 at 12:30 PM what is the translation for family? is this correct? thanks to all Quote
cici* Posted August 3, 2007 at 08:32 AM Report Posted August 3, 2007 at 08:32 AM to some extent, you could say family is 家族。 家族 includes all the members in your faimily. It's very common to call all the members with the same family name together with their wives and kids as a 家族。 But 家,you can use it as a part of 家族,you and your parents can be called 家 but couldn't call it 家族。 Quote
srebelk Posted August 22, 2007 at 02:46 PM Author Report Posted August 22, 2007 at 02:46 PM What's the most appropriate symbol for family? including father, mother, son and wife thanks to all any other? Quote
