Cherrieberrie Posted August 1, 2007 at 06:56 PM Report Posted August 1, 2007 at 06:56 PM Hey! ME and my friend is going to BJ for a couple of days and we want to party! Which clubs are the best? I've heard that mix & vics are awesome clubs if you like musik like, timbaland, usher, beyonce, the pussycat dolls. But is there any clubs which plays both house, like fedde le grand & david guetta and the hiphop artist? I want international music. How's the clubs onm the weekdays? From monday-thursday? Quote
adrianlondon Posted August 1, 2007 at 08:36 PM Report Posted August 1, 2007 at 08:36 PM The scene in Beijing changes quite rapidly. Well, the bars and clubs don't much, but the clientelle does. A place which someone tells you will be packed on a Friday night could well turn out to be almost empty a few months later. You need this site www.thatsbj.com/newsletter/ A 7-day advance guide to what's on. Quote
Cherrieberrie Posted August 1, 2007 at 08:38 PM Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 at 08:38 PM Yeah, i have already seen that one, haha! But I wanted to ask the people who actually live there. Quote
adrianlondon Posted August 1, 2007 at 09:31 PM Report Posted August 1, 2007 at 09:31 PM I did, for 6 months last year, and I relied on that web page (well, actually, the weekly emails I got) to work out what was hot and what wasn't. Everyone else does the same. In a way, they make it popular - well, for the ex-pats anyway. I tended to hang around Houhai. Quote
Cherrieberrie Posted August 1, 2007 at 10:09 PM Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 at 10:09 PM Hmm, maybe you're right. How much does drinks usually cost? Do they play international music? Quote
cdn_in_bj Posted August 2, 2007 at 01:43 AM Report Posted August 2, 2007 at 01:43 AM How much does drinks usually cost? I haven't gone clubbing that much here, but whenever I do my friends and I have always gotten a "cheap" bottle of whisky or vodka for 500-700 RMB. This includes a few cans of soda or green tea drink (don't ask) to use as mix. It's enough to get you right drunk, believe me. And if you don't finish your booze at the end of the night, you can take it home with you or store it at the club for next time (though they may only hold it for 1 month). If you buy by the drink, I am not sure about the clubs, but at the few nice bars where I've been drinks cost 50-90 RMB each. At Houhai you will pay from 20-35 RMB for a beer depending on the brand and how many you buy. www.thatsbj.com/newsletter/ This is pretty useful, it'll come in handy the next time I have friends visiting. Testament played a show here last Sunday and I missed it! Quote
cdn_in_bj Posted August 2, 2007 at 01:47 AM Report Posted August 2, 2007 at 01:47 AM I haven't been to Mix or Vics, but I recognize these places as being popular with the expat/foreigner crowd. I've only been to the block of clubs by Gontiximen (Worker's stadium west gate), ie - Babyface, Tanghui, etc. The music was your typical dance club fair, nothing special, and played way too loud. But that didn't stop us from getting trashed. Quote
Ari 桑 Posted August 2, 2007 at 05:12 AM Report Posted August 2, 2007 at 05:12 AM Well, does anyone know what happened to JJ in xinjiekou? Because that was my favorite by far, because of the pretty much 100% chinese crowd and pretty good music. But it seems to have mysteriously vanished, even though it was one of the oldest clubs in beijing. Anyway, if you are into not being a dumb laowai, thats my personal favorite. If you want to be a dumb laowai, mix and vics. If you want to be a horny laowai, Suzy Wongs. If you want to be a rich laowai, Babyface. There are lots and lots of clubs, those are the onces I've been too. I personally deffiniatly favored JJ. There are alot I haven't been to though, and some new ones, I'm not sure how they are doing. If you like latin by any chance, Latinos is often pretty good. Quote
cdn_in_bj Posted August 2, 2007 at 05:27 AM Report Posted August 2, 2007 at 05:27 AM If you want to be a horny laowai, Suzy Wongs What do you mean by this? Are there working girls there? I've only been there once, but it was the last day of the 5/1 holiday and was totally dead. My friend and I cabbed all over CBD that night trying to find a relatively relaxed place to have some drinks. Nice decor, but it was a bit too quiet so we left and ended up at the new Goose and Duck. That place was dead as well, but it was nice to sit on the patio and have some drinks. They also had clean bathrooms, which was a relief for me. If you want to be a rich laowai, Babyface I honestly have not noticed many other foreigners the times I've been there. But maybe things have changed. If you like latin by any chance, Latinos is often pretty good. I've heard about this place. Is it a mixed crowd? Quote

At that time when I was twenties and had much more free time, I went to NightMan, 热点DISCO, 和平HOUSE, Best, NASA, 杰克逊迪厅, etc., I also like JJ in xinjiekou the most. Maybe the reason is: http://cache.baidu.com/c?word=%B1%B1%BE%A9%3Bjj%3B%B5%CF%CC%FC%2C%CE%E8%BF%CD%2C%B1%BB%3B%BF%B3%3B%C1%BD%3B%CB%C0%3B%D2%BB%3B%C9%CB%2C%D2%D1%BE%AD%3B%D4%DD%CD%A3%3B%D3%AA%D2%B5&url=http%3A//news%2Esohu%2Ecom/2004/03/25/72/news219587238%2Eshtml&p=c9748b0386cc46ac19a2c7710d1c9d&user=baidu Quote
adrianlondon Posted August 2, 2007 at 09:05 AM Report Posted August 2, 2007 at 09:05 AM Latinos is excellent; a very mixed crowd. Places to dance, places to chill. Not cheap (nowhere in that area is), but I really enjoyed it as it wasn't a boozy club, wasn't a pick up joint, and the music was excellent. They also have live acts and sometimes put on shows. The last time I was there (a few months ago) I saw a Capoeira show by a Brazilian group. Stunning. Quote

All I know is I went on a trip, came back, and JJ was no longer going. But it said it was simply suspending buisness, so I suppose JJ still lives. Quote
