出事 means "have an accident" or "meet with a mishap". So here, it is devided, because 了 indicates that this already happened.

As for 儿, I'm not sure. Maybe this was told/written in Beijing dialect, which likes to use 儿. Or it is just added for a purpose that word has two syllables.

I think that you could tell it otherwise: 可能出事了.

for theose who live south china could never say 可能出了事儿.it's just a north accent.
