有没有个人可以给我帮?

有人“加油”说的时候, 用英文怎么说?

在词典,它告诉我“make the extra effort", 可是我觉得有最好的意思。

It's an encouragement thing, such as "come on, you can do it!" or "go for it!". As its literal translation is "add oil" it implies that you're doing ok but need to try just a little bit harder.

That's how I interpret it, anyway.

I think 加油, is used in many situations .

Watching a basketball chant, you might translate "Let's go 中国队 Let's go"

or "Here we go now"

If it is to an individual adrian's "you can do it" (from the waterboy movie, an excellant, comedy.) or "stick with" , "Come on" one closer transliteration for something that uses strength

"put your back into it"

For accuracy, "take your time", "slow and steady wins the race" (from tortise and the hare) "Rome wasn't built in a day, you know" good things take time and hard work.

There are times when "jia you" is used for encouraging someone to talk to a girl or something. This I would say "Go for it". "you will only know if you try" , "Don't be a chicken" (as chickens are afraid of everything).

Anyway, good luck,

have fun,

Simon:)

I've thought about this for quite a while since I've been in China/Taiwan. This one can't be translated directly but I think the closest translation when used as a chant is " Go, go, go!"

"Go, go, go!"
Is this actually used in English? It always struck me as a good example of Tanglish when I saw it, English that took up a new useage of its own in Taiwan.

In alot of situations I think of it like "move!" or "lets go!" For example, if you're hiking up a steep cliff, and someone says 加油!

I think "you can do it!" Fits best. You say this a lot in English to encourage, while "Move!" sounds rather rude

Yeah, "go, go, go" is used in English because I've heard people chant that before. Here's a couple more that I think will fit.

"Woot, Woot!"

"Put on the Steam!"

"Go baby, go!"

“Give it to big daddy!"
