I looked up passengers (here) on yahoo dictionary.

I'm confused as to what 名 means in the following example sentence:

這輛公車可載五十乘客。

It's a measure word for people. You could replace it by 个 without altering the sentence's meaning.

It seems to me that the meaning of the sentence would actually change slightly, since 名 usually signifies one member of a group or team, etc., and here means one of a group of passengers.

Certainly, the English translation would not change, but wouldn't you agree that the nuance in Chinese is different?

名, 個, 位 are ok. The nuance in Chinese is the same. No difference. (Well 名 and 位 may sound more polished than 個.)
