Huang Jialuo Posted August 27, 2007 at 10:42 PM Report Posted August 27, 2007 at 10:42 PM First of all, sorry Roddy for just submitting my thread here: I didn't know where to put it. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Hi, I just realized something important that I had not thought about. Are there any important shots that I need for my flight to Beijing?? I mean... I don't know if I will be going to other parts of China, but specifically in Beijing... do I need any? I know I am already vaccinated for yellow fever, but do I need vaccination for anything else? My trip will take place pretty soon, so I want to know if I can also get all the vaccines in time. Thank you a lot. Additional Information: I am going to study at a University for 6 months -12 months (don't know if that helps, haha). Quote
Shadowdh Posted August 27, 2007 at 11:15 PM Report Posted August 27, 2007 at 11:15 PM I would ask my doctor or nurse at the doctors office if I were you... hep shots are a good idea, plus a few others I cant remember at the moment.. but the shots that are considered necessary vary country to country... Huang Jialuo Posted August 27, 2007 at 11:19 PM Author Report Posted August 27, 2007 at 11:19 PM Cool, but I am not currently in my country and I do NOT have a current doctor or nurse so if any of you guys or girls who read this KNOW which vaccines are required for Beijing city: either because you have lived there or just because you know for the sake of knowing, I will highly appreciate your response. Or if you have a webpage that could help me, that would be good too. Thanks. Quote
Shadowdh Posted August 27, 2007 at 11:29 PM Report Posted August 27, 2007 at 11:29 PM Ah Isee... right have dug out my vaccination record... diphtheria, tetanus and polio boosters shots were recommended Hep a and typhoid also done, hep b meningitis also done (my book lists a,c,w and y but not sure if all were done or just a few) I also had the rabies shots as I didnt know (and still dont really) if I was going to be rural or not for any length of time and they were done through my docs office so were cheap... And thats all I had done really... some links you can try http://www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk/ http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket%2FXcelerate%2FShowPage&c=Page&cid=1007029390590&a=KCountryAdvice&aid=1013618385765 http://www.nathnac.org/travel/index.htm and finally here... http://www.nomadtravel.co.uk/pages/worldwide-country-advice#c But this is all UK specific and each country can have different requirements/advice... cdn_in_bj Posted September 18, 2007 at 03:04 AM Report Posted September 18, 2007 at 03:04 AM I've said it before, and I'll say it again - definitely get your Hep shots. You can get vaccinated when you get here. Quote
Huang Jialuo Posted September 18, 2007 at 08:26 AM Author Report Posted September 18, 2007 at 08:26 AM cdn_in_bj.. thanks for the advice.. would you be so kind as to give me some recommendations on where to go to get them? I am kind of new, so I really am not sure where I stand right now. Thanks a lot, Huang Jialuo Quote
citywayne Posted September 18, 2007 at 07:35 PM Report Posted September 18, 2007 at 07:35 PM I was told by my doctor friend ( he is Chinese and travels to Asia quite a bit) that it would be adviseable to get a hepatitis A and B shot. My family physician (more in tune with US issues) did not think that was necessary. However, if you get into the 'communal family style dinner' situation, you may want to be covered. Quote
yonglin Posted September 18, 2007 at 11:15 PM Report Posted September 18, 2007 at 11:15 PM Hepatitis A is spread through food and water. Food and water in China can be quite dirty sometimes. So you should really take this one. Hepatitis B is spread only through body liquids, e.g., blood, sperm, etc., so theoretically you should be able to avoid this. However, you might not know what kind of situation you'll end up in, so you might want to take this one too. Quote
nomad Posted September 19, 2007 at 12:03 AM Report Posted September 19, 2007 at 12:03 AM You could try any of the international hospitals/clinics in Beijing; Beijing International SOS Clinic Beijing United Family Hospital International Medical Center The hep shot (if you can get the combo- Twinrix) is given in increments (0, 1, 6 months). This means that you'll be partially covered until you get the final shot (6 months after the first one). What ever you do, I would start the process as soon as possible. If you are going to be a student here, when you go to do your medical check up, I would ask them about getting the hep vacc. Maybe thry can do it there for you. Quote
