carlo Posted September 3, 2007 at 07:13 AM Report Share Posted September 3, 2007 at 07:13 AM Does anybody know where to look for a full reading of the 红楼梦 in mp3 format? On the net and in shops around China you can find TV dramas, cartoons, university lectures, poetry readings, encyclopedias on the 红楼梦, scanned copies of the manuscript versions, music tracks inspired by Dream of Red Chamber etc, but apparently not a full reading of the original text from beginning to end. Am I missing something?

skylee Posted September 5, 2007 at 07:29 AM Report Share Posted September 5, 2007 at 07:29 AM Any feedback? Is it good? Is it useful?
carlo Posted September 5, 2007 at 10:26 AM Author Report Share Posted September 5, 2007 at 10:26 AM It's very good, thank you skylee. Didn't have time to check it in the past 36 hours. I'm planning to listen to 古文观止 also, see if I can follow without reading the characters (I doubt it). Some reviewers complain about wrong pronunciations, the sound quality is a bit phoneline-like, but it doesn't sound too bad to me. Where do they find all these people recording whole novels for free? English audiobooks are ridiculously expensive.
skylee Posted September 5, 2007 at 10:37 AM Report Share Posted September 5, 2007 at 10:37 AM Free stuff and people complain?
carlo Posted September 6, 2007 at 05:02 AM Author Report Share Posted September 6, 2007 at 05:02 AM Maybe it's because it' the Hongloumeng, the Great Masterpiece, so people want to make a point of the fact that they can tell that there are mistakes. Had it been 偷情女教师 nobody would have noticed. Very addicting website.
atitarev Posted March 19, 2012 at 03:50 AM Report Share Posted March 19, 2012 at 03:50 AM Hi, Is there a site that still works (and doesn't require registration) to download 红楼梦 in mp3 format?
imron Posted March 19, 2012 at 03:59 AM Report Share Posted March 19, 2012 at 03:59 AM The site skylee listed still works, and accepts mailinator accounts for registration so it shouldn't be too troublesome to get it working. If you really don't want to register, shengda@mailinator.com, password: asdfasdf was the throwaway account I just created then, so feel free to use those credentials Edit: Actually, I just realised now it costs you money if you want to download, so I guess it's not much use. atitarev Posted March 19, 2012 at 04:05 AM Report Share Posted March 19, 2012 at 04:05 AM Thanks, Imron, unfortunately I got 下载这本图书需要支付 2 听币,您当前的余额 0 听币不足支付 message on the account.
skylee Posted March 19, 2012 at 04:19 AM Report Share Posted March 19, 2012 at 04:19 AM But it looks like you can still listen to it online, no? You can also download a 紅樓夢 audiobook from app store. It costs USD2.99, which does not seem unreasonable. http://itunes.apple.com/hk/app/hong-lou-meng-you-sheng-shu/id407945054?mt=
imron Posted March 19, 2012 at 04:37 AM Report Share Posted March 19, 2012 at 04:37 AM That's cheaper than what you'd pay for downloading the full set of audio files from the tingbook site.
atitarev Posted March 19, 2012 at 05:43 AM Report Share Posted March 19, 2012 at 05:43 AM Thanks, guys, If this is the whole lot, it's definitely cheap! I have android, though, not iPhone, not sure if I can use the app, probably not.

atitarev Posted March 19, 2012 at 11:04 AM Report Share Posted March 19, 2012 at 11:04 AM Thanks, Slylee. I will try the Emule links. They seem inactive, though, or my emule needs some adjustment. EDIT: Seems like I'm getting somewhere. Thanks again.

atitarev Posted March 20, 2012 at 10:32 PM Report Share Posted March 20, 2012 at 10:32 PM Oops, haha. Sorry for the misspelling I've got enough material to work with but I haven't downloaded a complete audiobook. I was able to download most parts from the link (link #3 in your post) that gives links for each chapter/part (only 12?) but some downloads are sitting. It didn't have the links to all chapters, though or the whole book is split into 12 parts, I don't know. I've got the first few. After a few days, the download of a big chunk - your first link (it only has only done about 80%).
