Knitting group meeting in Beijing

Hello everyone!

There has been talk of trying to resurrect a knitting group in Beijing. Apparently there used to be one (well, probably more than one, but only one on the that'sbeijing website).

So far the people who have expressed an interest are based in Haidian but we're all very flexible.

The idea would be to meet up every now and again and knit together. My Chinese friends assure me that everyone will find this a hilariously odd thing to do. However, I'm used to being odd in Beijing so I think this will just confirm everyone's suspicions.

No details as yet: totally open on location, times etc. Really just wanted to get some idea of whether anyone, anyone at all would be interested. It doesn't matter if you've never knitted or crocheted or done anything like that before - it's really easy and someone can easily get you started.

If anyone is trying to work out whether they actually want to learn to knit, let me tempt you:

1. It can be a really relaxing way to ... uhhhh... relax

2. You can do it while doing other things, like watching TV or listening to Chinese audio. Not only is that economical with your time, it also gives you something different to say when your chinese teacher wants you to give an example sentence using "一边 ... 一边" ( I don't know about you but I can never think of anything more than drinking coffee or listening to music)

3. You can make winter woollies to protect you against the Beijing winter.

4. You WILL look really cool :D

And if any of you guys are thinking that this is a girly thing, Russell Crowe, Antonio Banderas and Joey Tribbiani can all knit...

Anyway, the crux of this message is that if you are interested at all, reply to this post or PM me...

Your post reminded me of this video of some old ladies un-knitting on the streets of Shanghai:

. I don't think you will be too odd!
