Mark Yong Posted September 5, 2007 at 08:44 AM Report Posted September 5, 2007 at 08:44 AM I am currently studying an old scroll documenting a marriage proposal between two families. The end of the scroll bears the following text: 峕龍飛中華民國十二年六月弍日 Questions: I did some research on http://www.chineseetymology.org/, and found that "峕" is an alternate form for 時. Can anyone verify this? What does 龍飛 mean in this context? I know that it used to be a metaphor for the Emperor ascending the throne. In this case, is it just a way of saying "On this auspicious day..."? There is a character in the scroll that has the 亻radical + 宇. Does anyone know what the character is? Quote
coolnicholas Posted September 5, 2007 at 09:31 AM Report Posted September 5, 2007 at 09:31 AM Maybe"峕龍飛"is a name of somebody,right? Quote
skylee Posted September 5, 2007 at 10:25 AM Report Posted September 5, 2007 at 10:25 AM 2. Perhaps the name of the person who wrote the scroll, and then the date. Edit - or perhaps 龍飛 is shortened from 龍飛鳳舞 (adj / n. - of swift movement of dancing or calligraphy), meaning "written (in calligraphy) on 2 June 1923". Quote
